"This Olde World isn’t only about cheesecake. The repertoire of the small-town bakery includes dozens of other kinds of cakes from Aztec Dark Chocolate to white-on-white. There are brownies, biscotti, jumbo muffins, fruit pies, pound cakes, coffee cakes, cannoli, cream puffs, and rum babas. The cheesecake is dense and delicious, and while there are countless exotic flavors available (pumpkin Kahlua swirl, anyone?), we like the plain and simple traditional cheesecake, served without sweet glaze or fruit on top. One of the curious specialties that we’ve seen in a couple of places in this small area of Pennsylvania coal country, but nowhere else, is Jewish apple cake. It’s a heavyweight coffee cake with a top that is laced with slivers of sweet, soft-cooked slivers of apple. A glorious coffee companion! Most Olde World Cheesecake Company business is whole cakes that people take home; but several items are available by the slice, and the shelves often hold miniature pound cakes for $1.49 each. There’s not much in the way of dining facilities: one single table opposite the bakery shelves. But if you sit here early in the day, the aromas coming from the ovens in back are exhilarating.
